A Little About Me

My name is Doria Rhodes. I have been in Early Childhood Education for over 22 years. I have a BA from Lesley College, Cambridge MA. I have both, teaching and director certifications. I am a mother of three. I enjoy gardening and watching my chickens. I love learning about natural, organic remedies, plants, herbs and oils.

Before my husband and I purchased the property in which Cornerstones is located, I worked at The Children's School at Deerfield Academy for over nine years. Prior to that I worked as a lead teacher/ coordinator at The Greenfield Girls Club for almost 10 years. Along the way, I have learned many things from many wonderful co-workers, families and children.

Starting my own program is important to me because I have always believed that early education is vital. These learnings are critically foundational for children to develop into secure, well rounded, individuals aware of his/ her emotions.

Today, I feel we are on the cusp of a movement in which the importance of early childhood education is recognized and parents, families and communities understand that it is paramount to the success of future generations. I also am a firm believer in the importance of social emotional growth and development. By implementing my own program, I am able to facilitate this growth as children learn how to identify their feelings and develop words to describe them. Children will be able to share and take turns and communicate with one another. Children will be secure in asking questions and figuring things out by trial and error. Children will also learn to help others and to care about each other. All this will be done through play. These skills are fundamental and set the cornerstones of a solid, secure confident child ready to take on the world.
